Language Comes after Artist: A Selection of Books by Lynne Avadenka

Curated by Peggy Daub, Outreach Librarian & Curator, Special Collections Library

Introduction

Detroit artist Lynne Avadenka has produced small-run, fine press books at her own Land Marks Press for 25 years. The books shown here are a selection of her work and celebrate her skill in merging the visual and textual. All make use of fine paper, binding and printing, and the author is Avadenka herself unless otherwise noted. They are available for viewing at the Special Collections Library, University of Michigan, which collects fine press books by Michigan book artists.

Lynne Avadenka was the 2013 Jill S. Harris Visiting Artist at the Institute for the Humanities, University of Michigan. This exhibit of her books was in conjunction with an exhibit of her artwork  in the Institute's Gallery curated by Amanda Krugliak.  The two exhibits were presented jointly by the Institute for the Humanities, the Special Collections Library, and the Frankel Center for Judaic Studies.
