- Description
- This project was inspired by multiple art pieces- foremost, a public art sculpture placed outside the Engineering department, which used elements from various 2 and 3 dimensional scientific diagrams that attempt to explain various aspects of the universe. We connected this to The Voyager’s (1977) Time Capsule, which consisted of a computer, 8 track tape memory system, and a copper phonograph, that were sent into space with the idea that if the spacecraft ever made contact with aliens, they would receive a present made up of sounds, images, music, thoughts and feelings from the Earth. As students who are very passionate about the Living Arts community, we wondered what we would put into a time capsule about it- and that’s exactly what our project is- a Living Arts Time Capsule. From Avatar Nights to Bursley Fire Alarm Memes, and from being a constant support group to giving us some of our fondest college memories, we tried to capture the essence of what this community has meant to us this year.
Working in an interdisciplinary group helped us look at things with new perspectives, and enhanced communication skills. We synthesized the best parts of multiple ideas to come up with a cohesive plan that all our members agreed with; it was a delight working on this project! - Rights
