The three allegorical female figures at the top of the hemispheres and the three at the bottom depict fire, day, air, earth, night, and water. This map is an excellent example of how artistic details were employed in the making of antique maps. The use of the colorants bronze, silver, gold, vermilion, as well as black and white lead, also lend to this map’s dramatic sense of artistic flourish. The map can be found here.
