West African loose-leaf copy of the Qur’ān with leather wrapper and satchel. The script (Barnāwī), decoration, format, writing material, and enclosure are all typical of West African manuscript production, in particular that of the Bornu area of historical Central Sudan (present-day northeastern Nigeria and parts of Niger and Chad). The particular watermarked paper suggests late 19th or early 20th century.
