Opening (Q 4:90-92) from an Early ʿAbbāsid Qur’ānic fragment comprised of two gatherings carrying a portion of Sūrat al-Nisāʼ (4) and Sūrat al-Māʼidah (5). Script (Déroche style D.I) and ornament (Déroche style 2' A.II) suggest dating of 9th century AD cf Déroche, The Abbasid Tradition (Oxford 1992), p36-37. Verse count of 123 provided in illuminated heading of Sūrat al-Māʼidah associates the manuscript with reports of the Basran codex cf al-Dānī (d.1053) al-Bayān fī ʻadd āy al-Qurʾān, ed Ghānim Qaddūrī al-Ḥamad (Kuwait City 1994), p149
