Our piece is based around A Very Potter Musical by Starkid. A Very Potter Musical originated as a Basement Arts performance, and it was uploaded to Youtube because the director didn’t want to burn 30 DVDs to hand out to the crew. It proceeded to go viral, garnering over 13 million views. Our piece seeks to capture the essence of A Very Potter Musical in two ways: reflect the subject of Harry Potter and create something that grows in significance as more people interact with it (just as the musical by going viral).
As each individual approaches our piece, he or she is invited to contribute something to it. A computer displays a list of instructions, and each instruction details a specific shape to draw on a piece of paper. Each shape represents a spell, and the art is created by the interaction of many different spells on one piece. However, the list of instructions is different for each individual, resulting in unique artwork. Once the instructions are finished, the individual places their artwork on the wall next to another piece and makes the project bigger.
I have attached the piece of paper that the shapes were drawn on, the instruction list, and the script that randomized the order of the instructions each time it was run. - Rights
