The Regents of the University of Michigan wish to commend and thank Vice President Linda S. Wilson as she leaves the university to assume her new position as president of Radcliffe College. When she arrived at the University of Michigan in 1985, Linda Wilson undertook the dual challenge of being the University's first woman executive officer and the first vice president for research who had not previously been a University of Michigan faculty member. Undaunted, she demonstrated her administrative acumen in short order as she presided over a growth in research support from $159.3 million to the current historic high of $234.6 million. The Regents are grateful for Linda Wilson's insightful, persuasive leadership that was instrumental in the University's achieving this milestone and enhancing its national prominence as one of the nation's premier research centers. As she prepares to undertake yet another mission in the pursuit of excellence in higher education, the Regents express their deepest respect and appreciation to Linda S. Wilson for her exemplary service as Vice President for Research at the University of Michigan. The resolution was adopted by acclamation, and was followed by a standing ovation. Vice President Wilson thanked those present for providing her with "a four-year graduate professional education in working with a major research institution."
