Biography/Memoir

 

John L. Tappan, a son of President Tappan, was put in charge of the Library in 1856.  He was also appointed Secretary of the Board upon the resignation of Alexander Winchell.

In 1858 he resigned as Secretary and in 1863 was removed from the office of Librarian when his father Henry Tappan was removed from the Presidency of the University of Michigan.
