The copperplate engraving of the title page shows a Spaniard, assisted by a Jesuit, blowing pieces of gold into the lap of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, a central figure of Dutch politics. In brief, the pamphlet is an attack on Oldenbarnevelt, a proponent of religious toleration. He was executed in 1619 with the complicity of Maurits, Prince of Orange.
