Visscher’s map documents the colonies of New Netherland, New England, and Virginia. The landscape is decorated with illustrations of animals (foxes, beavers, turkeys, bears, deer, hares, and herons), trees, and hills. The lower right corner features an illustrated inset showing a view of “Nieuw Amsterdam” (now called New York) framed on either side by Native American figures.
