Trish Brown narrowly lost her re-election bid to the Wayne-Westland School Board in a nasty campaign in which her sexuality was targeted with "Take a Hike Dyke" flyers. As lesbian and gay issues came to the fore in public policy debates, gay and gay-friendly candidates were increasingly attacked for having a "homosexual agenda."
