Got a design idea, and wondering if someone else had it first? AAEL can help with that.  We are a Patent and Trademark Resource Center (PTRC) designated by United States Patent Office (USPTO). As a PTRC, we have access to PubEAST and PubWEST databases. These are only available at the USPTO and at PTRC's across the nation, and are used by patent examiners for searching.

If you would prefer using one of the databases that is freely available on the web, try Espacenet from the European Patent Office. This contains worldwide patents. We also currently acquired access to Derwent Innovations Index

To learn more about our resources for patent and trademark searching, check out our research guide on the subject or contact our patent librarian, Leena Lalwani. The guide also contains a handy video tutorial recently created by University Library Associate Joanna Thielen.
