Did you know that we have a Materials Collection? This collection is meant to inspire your creativity by letting you see and touch the materials. It is available for use at AAEL for all faculty, staff and students. Located on the second floor above Mujo's, it's also a great place to study! This collection currently contains over 550 different materials. You can browse this collection using our online database of current materials.
The core of our collection is composed of materials from Material Connexion®, a leading global platform for innovative and sustainable materials used in design, building and manufacturing. The library also provides access The Material Connexion® database which contains over 7,500 eclectic and innovative materials. It has a very large sustainable materials section and is the only Cradle to Cradle materials library in the world. You can search the database using over 100 specific criteria within the categories of Processing, Sustainability, Usage and Physical Properties.
We are actively building the collection with materials from other vendors such as tiles, conductive materials, suction tapes, cork fabric, and littleBits electronic parts from Inventables.
Are there materials that you want but aren't in our current collection? We will happily pursue getting samples for you. Contact Rebecca Price, the Architecture, Urban Planning and Visual Resources Librarian, with your suggestions.
The Materials Collection Research Guide has more information about this collection as well as links to the latest Materials news and how to find product information for designing and building online.
