Rodgers’s Nydia is the first original work of art collected by the University of Michigan and is prominently displayed in the apse of UMMA. Rodgers was originally from Ann Arbor, and, at the time that this piece was acquired, he was perhaps the most celebrated sculptor in the US. His statue reflects the neoclassical style that predominated in the late 19th century, which is also visible in the architecture of the museum space in which it is displayed. --University of Michigan Museum of Art
